Respect is the most important part of greeting people in Yemen. When meeting women hug and kiss, and men shake hands or hug and kiss each other on the cheek. Greetings usually start with assalaam 'alaikum which means may peace be upon you. Sabah al-khayr means good morning and masa'a al-khayr. Spouses don't usually hold each others hands in public. Arabic is the oficial language in Yemen.
